Welcoming  Jess  Townsend & Tom McCluskey

Jess began learning the violin at the age of 7 through Worcestershire Youth Music. Throughout her childhood she enjoyed orchestral playing, leading the county youth and string orchestras as well as gaining places with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Youth ensemble and the National Children’s Orchestra.

Jess gained a scholarship to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2011, studying under Darragh Morgan. During her time there, she led the RWCMD Symphony Orchestra and Opera Orchestra and also successfully auditioned for the Welsh National Opera student placement scheme, rehearsing with the ensemble for several projects.

Upon graduation, Jess was trained in teaching through the Berkshire Maestros String Teaching Internship Scheme and has since taught all over the country for music services and schools in Berkshire, South Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Gwent and Lancashire.

She is also a keen professional player and regularly tours with the European Union Chamber Orchestra, and performs with the English Symphony Orchestra, Bristol Ensemble, British Sinfonietta and other groups. Additionally, she has built a session music business with her cellist partner Tom McCluskey and between them have written and recorded music for multiple clients and projects including television adverts, tv shows, games soundtracks and Netflix documentaries under their ensemble name - Severn Duo.
